Safety Policies & Procedures

At ACLC, we prioritize student health and well-being. Our policies help create a safe, clean, and supportive environment for all children.

Transportation Policy

Each van will keep a list of transported children, marking their names upon boarding and disembarking. A staff member will assist children exiting the van at the facility entrance. If no staff member is present, the driver will help the children disembark safely. Afterward, the staff will use a checklist to confirm all children have entered the facility, while the driver inspects the van. A designated person will perform a final check to ensure no child is left on board. Both the driver and the designated person will sign the checklist to confirm completion of these checks.

Arrival and Departure

Procedure, approved by the licensing authority, for assuring a child's safe arrival and departure (All children shall be signed in/out of the facility by an authorized individual).

  • Procedures for protecting children from traffic hazards during arrival, departure, and street crossings.

  • Policy ensuring children are released only to authorized responsible persons.

  • Guidelines for parents picking up children after closing hours and procedures for children not picked up.

Transportation
  • It is required that all drivers are appropriately licensed.

  • All vehicles have current licenses and registrations.

  • Insurance adequately covers the transportation of children.

  • Children board or leave the vehicle from the curbside of the street and are safely accompanied to their destinations.

  • A parent/guardian is present if the child is transported home.

  • Seat belts will be used, and all children will be properly restrained during transport.

  • No vehicle shall be occupied by more individuals than its rated capacity.

  • No children shall be transported in the front seat of vehicles equipped with passenger-side airbags.

  • Vehicles under 10,000 pounds must have occupant restraints appropriate for children's age and weight. Children under foour must be secured in a federally compliant child safety seat, installed per the manufacturer's instructions. Additionally, seat belts must be used to ensure proper restraint during transportation.

Health & Wellness Policies

Immunization & Health Records
  • All children must have up-to-date immunizations before the first day.

  • A current vaccination record is required upon enrollment and updated annually.

  • Medical exemptions must be approved by a licensed physician.

Illness Policy

Children must stay home if they have:

  • Fever of 100.4°F or higher (must be fever-free for 24 hours without medication to return).

  • Vomiting or diarrhea in the past 24 hours.

  • Unexplained rash, pink eye, or contagious illness.

  • Persistent cough, difficulty breathing, or flue-like symptoms.

If your child is absent for 3+ days due to illness, a doctor's note is required.

Safety Procedures

If your child becomes ill or sustains an injury while at ACLC, we will promptly seek medical care. Parents and guardians will be notified of the situation immediately. If we determine that your child requires urgent medical attention, we will call 911 for assistance.

Key points to remember:

  • We will take all necessary precautions to ensure your child receives the best possible medical care.

  • Parents are responsible for providing the center with updated information regarding their child.

  • In case of emergency procedures, a staff member will stay with your child until you or an authorized individual arrives at the hospital.

  • All staff members are certified in CPR and first aid.

Parents, we are committed to understanding your child comprehensively. Therefore, it is essential to share any relevant information with the director and your child's teacher.

  • If you are currently working on potty training, please inform us so we can provide support.

  • If your child has any medical conditions or food allergies, kindly let us know what to watch for to ensure their safety.

We are not seeking personal details, just the necessary information to prioritize your child's well-being.

  • ACLC obtains financial support from the USDA, a program designed to help us acquire food and offer nutritious meals for the children.

  • If your child is restricted from consuming certain foods, we will require a doctor's statement detailing exactly what they cannot eat, which will be kept on file. We kindly request that parents refrain from sending food to ACLC for their child. No outside food is permitted, except in the case of a birthday party or special event being celebrated that day.

Dress Code & Personal Belongings Policy

We encourage children to wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing that allows for safe movement, active play, and independent self-care. Our dress code promotes practicality, safety, and school identity while allowing children to express themselves.

Dress Code

Play and Weather-Appropriate Clothing

  • Children should wear loose, breathable clothing that allows free movement.

  • Clothes should be easy for children to manage (e.g., elastic waistbands instead of buttons/zippers).

  • Kindly ensure that your child is dressed suitably for the weather conditions.

Shoes for Safety

  • Closed-toe shoes with rubber soles are required. No sandals, flip-flops, or shoes with wheels (to prevent injuries).

Extra Clothing Requirement

  • Parents must provide a labeled extra set of clothes (shirt, pants, socks, and underwear) in case of spills or accidents.

All clothing and accessories must be labeled with the child's name to prevent mix-ups. Each child has a designated locker.

Toys
  • We kindly ask that children do not bring their toys to school, as we offer age-appropriate toys for playtime. If staff members need parents to send a particular toy for a theme or show-and-tell, they will provide advance notice.
